Fuel slick causes crash on Tihonet Road in Wareham

Nov 2, 2018

An excavating truck that crashed into a utility pole on Tihonet Road Friday reportedly skidded on a fuel slick left behind by a leaking tractor trailer truck.

Officials were first notified of the crash around 11:47 a.m. after receiving several calls for a slippery substance on the road.

Both Wareham Fire and Police responded to the crash, closing Tihonet Road for safety. Wareham Municipal Maintenance was called in to sand Tihonet Road as well as sections of Cranberry Highway affected by the fuel slick. No injuries were reported.

According to emergency broadcasts, both the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection later arrived on scene.

Officials stated that the tractor trailer responsible for the fuel slick was not identified, but continued along Cranberry Highway into Onset. Drivers are urged to use caution.
