Fun for all is par for the course at Wareham Free Library

Dec 30, 2023

Public libraries have something for everyone — even on the days when they're moonlighting as mini-golf courses.

The Wareham Free Library brought the putting green indoors on Friday, Dec. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 30. The event, a fundraiser for the Wareham Free Library Foundation, sent golfers along a makeshift course through the library's halls and bookshelves.

Some grown-ups approached the course ready to compete.

Bob Flynn, Bill Keyes and Casey Mcgilvray hit the links all decked out to play. Flynn brought in a club from home; Keyes wore his father's lucky golfing socks.

"I've only golfed a couple of times in my life," Flynn said. He said he "shocked" people the first time he played — he was just a natural.

Plenty of kids teed off at the course throughout the event as well.

Marouska Ayoub said the first hole she played was her favorite. "I got this plush," Ayoub said, holding out a pink stuffed animal she had won.

Another young golfer, Bobbie Kerrigan, said she most liked a hole that included a castle. "It's so easy — I got a hole in like three."

The adults who accompanied their kids had their own clubs in hand.

The Coryer family came out to participate and to support the library, said Michael Coryer. He said the family comes to the library about once a month or so.

All involved said they were having a good time.

Patrick Marshall, Wareham Free Library Director, said it was a good cause, and the event was going well. Marshall said over a hundred people turned out for the event Friday night, and Saturday's attendance stayed steady.

“So we’ve been pleased with the turnout so far,” he said.
