The start of the 2024 season of the Cape Cod Baseball League is just over a month away, and the Wareham Gatemen have hopes that it will be a good one. 

“We’re going to have a wonderful season,” said Gatemen President Glen Hannington.

The Gatemen will play their opening game on Saturday, June 15 against Chatham. 

Later in the season, on Thursday, July 20, the Gatemen will have their first responders night, a repeat of their first event held the year before. 

The club also plans to run clinics and sponsor players to ensure that anyone can attend, he added. In addition, the club runs a Field of Dreams program, where young baseball and softball players from the region can attend a game, meet the players before the game and stand out on the field for the National Anthem. 

“Everyone’s gonna be coming into town, we have all the players, the managers, hopefully it’s going to fill the coffers of the Wareham economy here,” Hannington said.
