Gatemen whip Harbor Hawks in home opener

Jun 12, 2015

The Wareham Gatemen trounced the Hyannis Harbor Hawks 6-2 at the Gatemen home opener on Spillane Field last Thursday night.

The game began with ceremonial opening pitches, thrown this year by Lindsey Gay and Nolan Butler. The game was well-attended and featured the usual sight of kids with gloves scurrying for foul balls throughout the game. One family, the Tavares', got two foul balls.

Paula and Paul Borsari, of Naples, Florida, said they were enjoying the game. Paul Borsari, a native of Wareham, said his daughter and her family is very involved with the Gatemen, and that he thinks the Cape Cod League teams are fantastic.

“How can you not enjoy this great baseball season?” Borsari asked.

Karryn Semiao said she and her family come to the Gatemen games every year. Her daughter, Makayla, 11, said she enjoys seeing the first pitch, and meeting the players.

“I like [Autograph Night], where you get their autographs,” Makayla Semiao said.

And 9-year-old Michael Semiao’s favorite part?

“The foul balls,” Karryn Semiao said.

As of June 15, the Gatemen are 3-4 and play their next home game on Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m. against Falmouth.
