George C. Decas Scholarship Fund to support Wareham students

Sep 3, 2021

William C. Decas has established a new scholarship fund in memory of his late brother, Attorney George C. Decas, through the SouthCoast Community Foundation.

The fund will provide $20,000 to $25,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who live in Wareham, starting in 2022, and can support recipients over four years.\

“George, sister Katharina, and I were all raised and educated in Wareham. We were fortunate that our parents could afford to send us to college, but we know that many are not in the same position,” said William Decas. “We are so pleased to have the help of the Community Foundation to honor our parents and our late brother George in this way, providing well-earned financial support to the youth of Wareham.”

This is the second scholarship fund created by the Decas family through the SouthCoast Community Foundation, following the Georgia and Constantine Decas Family Scholarship Fund which William created with his sister, Katharina Decas, last year.

“The Decas family are an exemplary model of what it means to give back,” said Sarah Rose, Director of Engagement for the SouthCoast Community Foundation. “We are humbled they chose the Community Foundation to help them with their philanthropic goals in supporting the educational dreams of Wareham students.”

The SouthCoast Community Foundation manages 60 scholarship funds and awards about $500,000 in scholarships each year. For more information, visit http://www.southcoastcf.org.
