George Kendall Clark, 92

Aug 15, 2023

WAREHAM - George Kendall Clark of Wareham, MA passed away on August 8, 2023. He was 92 years old and passed in the home he built 50 years ago.

He was born and raised in Concord, MA with his mother Barbara Kendall Clark and father Lawrence Elliot Clark. He is a 1952 graduate of Nichols College and immediately entered the US Navy as a Commissioned Officer. He served in the Navy for 20 years as a Naval Aviator flying the large “Super-Constellation” into the eye of Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes to gather meteorological data for Naval ships at sea. One of his Navy tales is how he would fly 500 feet above the water in a hurricane to gather data with one foot on the instrument panel so they could read the dials. During his 20 years as a pilot, he moved his family from Maryland, Puerto Rico, Florida, Guam, and finally to Virginia Beach where he retired as the Operations Officer for Naval Air Station Norfolk.

As a child, Kendall was introduced to horses by his father and quickly realized they were not his passion. But one thing he was introduced to was sailing. He and Nina always said to their children, “you weren’t born with a silver spoon in your mouth, but you have sailing in your blood”. After Kendall retired from the Navy, he moved his family down to Burgess Point, Wareham, MA, where the family vacationed in the extended family home on Onset Bay (aka the Big House). This is also where Kendall built his family’s forever home. Kendall enjoyed sailing with Nina, family, and friends out of Onset Bay where he always had a sail boat. He enjoyed many rendezvous at different points along the Cape as well as at the Burgess Point Boat House (ask anyone about the womanless wedding put on at the Boat House). Kendall was a soft-spoken man of few words but when he spoke, he chose his words thoughtfully. He lived a very full and loving life with his wife and children.

He is survived by his son Bradford Kendall Clark (Betsy) of Haymarket, VA, Lisa Clark Proctor of Duxbury, MA, Deborah Nina Clark and her partner Turk Ellis of Brattleboro VT, and Stephen Bray Clark (Tina) of Marion, MA. He also leaves behind and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow throughout the years; Jacquelyn Clark Yip (Sum) of Reston, VA, Samantha Clark Roy (Justin) of Sandwich, MA, Alex Lawrence Proctor (Kat) of Quincy, MA, Rebecca Kendall Proctor and fiancé Chris Hodges of Dracut, MA, Marshall Clark Bailey and fiancé Dani Costa of Middleborough, MA, Nicholas Furman Bailey of Wareham, MA and Owen John Bailey of Brattleboro, VT. Kendall even managed to see four of his great grandchildren; Cam and Layla Roy and Ellis and Robyn Yip.

A graveside service will be held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, MA, on August 23, 2023 at 10:30 am. He will be interned with his wife, Nina, of 60 years and his daughter Cynthia.

Dad, you have been honorably discharged from your duties. We will miss you.
