HANOVER – Gertrude A. (Fearing) Alley, 95 of Hanover, passed away on December 8, 2024, at Brookwood Assisted Living, Hudson, FL. She was the wife of the late Herbert R. Alley and the daughter of the late John and Marjorie (Tripp) Fearing.

She was born in Wareham and lived in South Weymouth before moving to Hanover in 1968.

Mrs. Alley graduated from Wareham High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College.

She worked as a First-Grade teacher at Fulton Elementary School in South Weymouth for 39 years. She was Teacher of the Year 1990-91.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, playing Bingo and Square Dancing.

Mrs. Alley was a member of Wareham Ladies Aux Post #220 for 42 years. REAM member and secretary for 2 years. Hanson Senior Steppers member and secretary.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Russell and her husband, Ron of Hudson, FL; a granddaughter, Kim Egan and her husband, Ian of Port Richey, FL; a brother, Leslie “Lucky” Fearing of Wareham; a sister, Marjorie Cooper of Canton, MI. She was the sister of the late John Fearing, Beverly Hoffler, Byron Fearing, Gleasia Yoder, Barbara Lavine, and Dorothy Eldridge.

Visiting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham.
