Getting slimed for a good cause
With Fun Run raking in the most from any fundraiser they’ve hosted, Wareham’s elementary schools put up their vice principals for a public shaming with green slime last week.
Marc Bell, vice president at Minot Forest Elementary School, tried to pull every excuse out of the book before getting slimed by the students of Minot Forest on Friday.
“I have a doctor’s note here,” he said, receiving a volley of “boos” from the students, all of whom gathered to witness the event.
For Bell, there was no escape.
But he didn’t seem to mind it. He was smiling, taking photos and throwing thumbs up after the event.
Students from both elementary schools ran between 30 to 35 laps last week for Fun Run, an event put together by Boosterthon. It was a week-long event during which students learned about endurance, character, humility and curiosity.
As of Friday, the elementary schools collected $74,000 of a total $84,000 pledged. According to Nicole Mazzoli, president of the Parent Teacher Association, they’ll keep 59 percent of that total. In the past, the schools have hosted fundraisers that have let them keep only 40 percent of profits. Mazzoli said their largest fundraiser prior to Fun Run raked in $8,000 and that this one surpassed their expectations.
The money raised will be used to upgrade technology in Decas and to fund outdoor play equipment for Minot Forest.
