Ghosts of the Gateway, Aug. 6
The Ghosts of the Gateway will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 in the Wareham Historical District. Noted paranormal investigators and ticketed guests will be conducting a paranormal investigation of four different buildings owned by the Wareham Historical Society—the Fearing Tavern (1690), the Old Meetinghouse (1835), the One-Room Schoolhouse (1825) and the Union Chapel (1880).
The Spooky Southcoast radio show will team up with the Wareham Historical Society for a spooktacular night of haunted history and ghost hunting. This is the first time this event has been offered during the summer months, and one ticket includes a pizza dinner along with snacks and beverages as well as a lecture on the history and the haunts.
“This is my hometown, and I know it’s one of the most haunted on the SouthCoast,” said Spooky Southcoast host Tim Weisberg, who also works as an associate producer and researcher on the popular television shows Ghost Asylum and Ghost Stalkers. “The Fearing Tavern is one of the most paranormally active locations I’ve ever investigated, and it never seems to disappoint. Each of the other three buildings has come alive for us in the past as well.”
Weisberg and his Spooky Crew were the first to ever investigate the Fearing Tavern and the surrounding buildings almost 10 years ago, and they keep returning with some of the most cutting-edge paranormal equipment and techniques.
That means attendees will be investigating for signs of the paranormal the same ways seen on television shows like Ghost Hunters, whether it be collecting data like Electronic Voice Phenomenon (in which spirits imprint their voices on digital recordings) or having personal experiences such as being touched by unseen hands.
“We’ve had some crazy experiences in these buildings in the past,” Weisberg said. “Phantom voices that we caught with our equipment and sometimes even heard aloud, moving objects, and even some scarier stuff as well. If you’re a serious paranormal researcher or a newcomer that just wants to know if there’s something to all of this, this is a night not to miss. When else can you run around in the dark in a place built in the 1600s?”
The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. Tickets are $99 per person, with a portion of all sales going back to the Wareham Historical Society to help preserve these historic haunts. Tickets must be purchased in advance at spookysouthcoast.com, or by making arrangements with Weisberg at tim@spookysouthcoast.com or by calling him at (508) 322-1985.
