Girls soccer looks to bounce back after loss
After a competitive first half where Head Coach Megan Kashner felt that her team let up two "not well earned goals," the young Wareham High School girls varsity soccer team let up four goals in the second half to lose 6-1 against Upper Cape Cod Regional Vocational Technical High School on Wednesday Sept. 11.
"They were opportunistic goals which the other team capitalized on,” said Kashner. “So for us to come back and end the [first] half 2-1, [it] gave us some energy for the second half.”
"But to give up some of the later goals that we did is really disappointing,” she added.
Kashner is leading a young, but tough team and despite their mistakes, she knows they still have a fighting chance for the season.
"We are a very physically tough team," said Kashner. "We have a young team – relatively inexperienced – so while they're learning the game they're competing against some good players so it's kind of learning under fire."
Despite the loss and a 1-2 record so far this season, Kashner has seen improvement in the program.
"In years past we entered games with team goals and we want to do certain things better but this year, we enter games trying to win," said Kashner.
The loss did not sway fans from cheering for the Vikings as many could be heard from the stands encouraging the team.
"Let's go Vikings," one shouted.
"We love you," others exclaimed.
Wareham will host Bristol County Agricultural School on Sept. 13 at 3:45 p.m.
