Jun 8, 2019

Gladys Caplin of Middleboro, MA passed away peacefully on Friday June 7th 2019, surrounded by her devoted and loving family. God needed a warrior angel, so he called Gladys home.

Gladys was born on January 30, 1961 in Biloxi, MS to Joan and David Caplin. She spent her childhood enjoying the backwoods of Middleboro and the beaches of Onset with her siblings. Gladys moved to East Thetford, Vermont in 2012 to be closer to her best friend and sister, Jan.

Family was always and forever Gladys’ top priority. She loved to cook for them, and her homemade quiches, lasagna, and strawberry cake were well-loved dishes, always making an appearance at family gatherings. Gladys was accepting, fun-loving, hilarious, and ALWAYS ready for a party. She stood up for what she believed in , unwavering in her fierce independence and strong values. Gladys was very proud of her Scottish and Lebanese heritage, and enjoyed traveling to Scotland and cooking Lebanese cuisine.

Gladys found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, listening to live music, sailing with friends, and relaxing on the beach...she was also quite fond of “cat” naps.

Above all else, Gladys’ greatest love in her life was her 4 children. Gladys’ free spirit lives on in her children, Joshua Lawrence and his wife Jessica, Benjamin Skippar and his girlfriend Adriana De Castro, Jessica Shannon and John Shannon, as well as her 3 adoring grandkids, Layne, Skye, and Izabel.

Gladys is also survived by her mother Joan Caplin, sisters Jan Jurgelewicz and Alice Zion, brothers Russell and Randy Caplin, and many loving nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her father David Caplin and step-father Wayne Robbins.

Gladys had been gracefully battling Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease since January 2019. Despite the rapid progression of this rare disease, her true spirit persevered throughout.
