Gladys M. (Selig) (Wrisley) Simms, 91

Gladys M. (Selig) (Wrisley) Simms, 91, of New Bedford, formerly of Wareham and Lille, Maine, passed away February 28 at New Bedford Health Care Center.

She is the wife of 50 years to the late Marion F. Simms who passed away on June 15, 2005.

Gladys was born in Port Medway Nova Scotia, Canada the daughter of the late Farish Selig and Melinda (Jollymore) Selig-Ouellette. Gladys was also the wife of the late Charles A. Wrisley who passed away at sea in January of 1946 aboard their 47-foot New Bedford fishing dragger E-C, off of Block Island along with her father Capt. Farish Selig.

Gladys worked for many years as a riveter at Aeorovox Corp. in New Bedford and is a late member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of New Bedford.

Gladys was always good spirited and enjoyed her family and friends.

She is survived by her stepson Frank G. Simms of FL, her sister Shirley Thompson of CA, and a brother Roger E. Ouellette and his wife Michelle of New Bedford. She is the grandmother of Tom Colwell and his wife Michele of North Dartmouth and several grandchildren in Maine and Florida and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is the mother of the late Marion F. (Wrisley) Colwell and sister of the late Lionel Ouellette, Marie Cooper, and Pauline Ouellette, Farish, Stanford, Donald and Gilbert Selig, Eliza Burt, and Beatrice Sevigny.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at New Bedford Health Care Center and Hospice Care Alternatives (especially Amanda) for their kind and compassionate care. Gladys will be greatly missed by her roommate Eileen Haaland and her dear friends Lorraine, Frances, and Pat.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m. on the second floor at the New Bedford Health Care Center (221 Fitzgerald Drive, New Bedford). A committal service will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 11:30 a.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Blvd. Bourne, MA 02532. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
