Golfing to 'Stop the Violence'

Apr 14, 2010

The First Annual Scotty Monteiro Jr. Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, April 24 at the Bay Pointe Country Club. The tournament is in memory of Scotty, a popular Onset resident who was murdered on Sept. 5, 2009 while at a party. He was 21 years-old.

The tournament is a memorial fundraiser for the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Foundation.  The  Monteiro family established the foundation to help the Wareham community "Stop the Violence." The foundation seeks to accomplish this goal in three ways: through awareness and education on violence and its impact on our lives; by supporting the Onset Youth Center, and by providing scholarships for college sophomore, juniors and/or seniors who volunteer in anti-violence organizations.

The golf tournament is the foundation's largest fundraiser. Tickets are $100 per person and includes golf (and a cart), dinner and dancing. The tournament begins at 1 p.m. The organizers promise "raffles galore." For applications, please visit Bay Pointe Country Club, Stephen's Lounge, Marc Anthony's, Little Harbor Golf Club, or call Wendy Monteiro at 508-291-1925.
