The grand opening of the Wareham Police Department's "Onset Village Substation" in the former Onset Water District office building at 240 Onset Avenue will be held at 5 pm. on Friday, May 25, according to a Wareham police press release.

The Onset Village Substation will provide assistance, information, and general police related services to citizens in the area, as well as be a place where citizens can stop by and say hello, police said.

The station would also help provide a safer environment for residents, visitors, and area businesses and would help improve their quality of life, police said.

"The Wareham Police Department is confident that the Onset Village Substation is destined to be an integral part of the fabric of the Village of Onset and the surrounding community," the police press release said.

Police also thanked the Onset Fire District Prudential Committee for the use of the former Onset Water District office building which is owned by the Onset Water District.

"The opening of the substation would not be possible without the cooperation, understanding, and assistance of the Onset Prudential Committee members Marcine Fernandes and Winna Dean, as well as Clerk Treasurer Mary McCoy," the police said.

In a May 22 Board of Selectmen meeting, Selectman Steve Holmes thanked Police Chief Richard Stanley for his efforts in opening the new substation.

"I want to thank [Stanley] for the time, resources and dollars to make that happen," Holmes said. "We ask you all to support him in their efforts," Holmes said to the general public.
