Grandmother, grandson arrested in crime spree, assault on officer
A Wareham grandmother and her grandson along with a third individual were arrested by Wareham police on Thursday, June 3 and face multiple felony charges after a three-day crime spree.
Lee Pires, 57, of Dale Avenue, Onset, her grandson Adrian Martin, 21, of Holly Street, Onset, and 19-year-old Timothy Morrison, of Burgee Lane, Wareham, are being charged in connection with the burglaries of three Wareham residences where police say $9,000.00 worth of jewelry, cash, and electronics were stolen.
Police Public Information Officer Bill Fihlman said that after an extensive investigation by Wareham police detectives, the three were identified as suspects in the break-ins. Detectives also identified the vehicle they believed was used in the break-ins.
On Thursday, a Wareham seasonal, bike patrol officer spotted the suspect vehicle leaving the residence of one of the suspects. He alerted area patrols and the vehicle was located at Wareham Computer, 3101 Cranberry Highway.
That officer radioed for backup and entered the store. Inside the store, Martin was found to be in possession of a computer that was suspected as being stolen from one of the house breaks. When the officer confronted Martin, he was pushed to the ground as Martin attempted to flee out the front door.
After a brief scuffle, Martin was subdued by the officer and handcuffed as other backup officers arrived. The officer was injured in the scuffle and was treated and released at Tobey Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Fihlman declined to identify the officer, saying that the department didn't want the officer to be overwhelmed with inquiries into his condition.
Also arrested at the scene were Morrison and Pires. A search warrant was executed at Morrison's Burgee Lane residence later that day and several of the stolen items were recovered. Approximately 95% of the items taken have been returned to the victims.
Lee Pires is charged with three counts of receiving Stolen Property over $250.00 and two counts of Larceny under $250.00 by False Pretenses.
Timothy Morrison is charged with three counts of Receiving Stolen Property Over $250.00, two counts of Breaking and Entering to a Building for a Felony, Possession of Ammunition without a Firearms I.D. Card, and Larceny under $250.00 by False Pretenses.
Adrian Martin is Charged with Resisting Arrest, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, three counts of receiving Stolen Property over $250.00, two counts of Breaking and Entering to a Building for a Felony, and two counts of Larceny under $250.00 by False Pretenses.
Fihlman said that none of the three individuals arrested were employees of the business, and that the business is not under investigation.
Pires, Morrison and Martin were arraigned Saturday at Wareham 4th District Court. Chief Richard Stanley commended his officers for their tenacious investigation and the teamwork that was displayed in the apprehension of these felons.
