Grandparents go back to school for Thanksgiving breakfast.
While it may not have been a full-blown Thanksgiving feast, students and their families enjoyed a breakfast at Minot Forest Elementary in anticipation of the upcoming holiday.
“It’s nice and cute that the kids can show us what they have learned,” said parent Melissa Muller. “They really have a better idea of what Thanksgiving is.”
All the kindergarten classes will be enjoying the event. However, there are so many classes at the school that the event is spread over two days.
Three classes feasted on Monday, including 60 students and their families. Four classes will celebrate on Tuesday, 83 students overall.
Teacher Sherri Williams’ class was among the Monday participants.
“It was a nice way to start the week,” said Williams. “We invite grandparents to the classroom. It can be the first time for them to see the kids in the classroom and with their classmates.”
“I took the day off. This is my first grandparents day,” Anne Marie Fuoco said. “I’m thankful for my granddaughter.”
“I’m thankful for my nana,” replied Fuoco’s granddaughter, Anna Lee Fuoco.
The Fuocos have quite a history at the school, Anna Lee’s father went to the school.
“They must have said, ‘Oh no, that’s Chris Fuoco’s kid,’” Anne Marie said.
Students sang Thanksgiving tunes and made place-mats. One class made and wore pilgrim hats.
Bracelets were also made with plastic beads. Each color of a bead represented something different.
“Blue is the water the pilgrims sailed over on the Mayflower,” student Alex Fleischer said. “Green is color the pilgrims say when they saw land… black is dark of night… brown is the color of the turkey they ate…. Red for cranberries, yellow for corn and orange for pumpkins.”
Fleischer was accompanied by his grandparents, Al and Evelyn Santos.
“He is thankful for his new brother, too,” Evelyn said.
