On Sunday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to noon, head to the Onset Bay Center at 186 Onset Ave. to help pack up birthday party kits and learn more about foster care and adoption.

The event will be hosted by Mary Nogueros, who is an outreach coordinator for the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) in addition to her work with the Gifted Crate and as the owner of the Onset Clay Room.

“I wanted to invite people who have ever expressed interest in foster care or adoption at any levels — whether it is volunteering for a nonprofit organization or learning about the process or adoption,” Nogueros said.

The event will feature arts and crafts for kids and snacks. 

Additionally, people will work to pack birthday party kits for kids in foster care, including cake mix, frosting and festive decorations. 

Adoptive families will be on hand to share their stories and answer questions, and a “heart gallery” featuring information about kids who are waiting to be adopted will be available. MARE representatives will also attend.

Nogueros said she hopes the event will be a positive, community atmosphere for families from the community.

“There’s a lot of kids in foster care in Wareham and I think we kind of forget that,” she said.
