Henry Andrew Hawes, Jr., 78
Henry Andrew Hawes, Jr., 78, of Wareham, died June 5, 2011 at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of Betty Lou (Braley) Hawes and the son of the late Henry A. Hawes, Sr. and Laura (Baker) Hawes.
He was born in Wareham and lived there all of his life. Mr. Hawes graduated from Wareham High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Hawes worked as a conduit inspector for New England Telephone Company for 34 years. Previously he worked as a truck driver for Gault Transportation. After retiring he worked for the Town of Wareham as a school bus driver.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Wareham Lodge of Elks #1548. He was a life-member of the American Legion Post 220.
He and his wife traveled all over the world and spent the winter months in Las Vegas. He enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his widow; 2 sons, Glen A. Hawes and his wife, Denise of Pembroke and Kenneth R. Hawes and his wife Xueli of Wareham; 3 granddaughters, Kelly M. Vitt, Elizabeth R. Dever, and Meien He; a great-granddaughter, Giovanna Dever; and his dog, Niko.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Henry Hawes orย Laura Hawes Scholarship Fund, American Legion Post 220, 777 Main St., Wareham, MA 02571.
