High flying Tigers seek success and new memories for 2025 season
As the Wareham Tigers Cheer Athletics organization jumps, tumbles and cartwheels into their new season, making lasting memories is just as important as any competition win.
The Wareham Tigers Cheer Athletics organization is an offshoot of the youth sports organization the Wareham Tigers Athletics Association that focuses solely on competitive cheerleading for kids age 4 to 18-years-old.
Each fall, the four tigers cheer teams hit the mats to learn a new routine to perform at showcases and competitions around the country.
“It’s looking pretty good this season,” said team Pride member Chloe Desrosiers. “We had the routine planned out earlier this year and we’ve been practicing it.”
The four teams are; team Empower, ages four to seven, team Spirit, ages 12 and under, team Pride, ages 14 and under and team Inspir3 (Inspire), ages 18 and under.
Team Inspire member Amaya Burton agreed with Desrosiers and added she is looking forward to not only performing well, but making lasting memories.
“My favorite part is just how it’s a big family and creating memories with everyone and succeeding in what we do,” Burton said.
And the program is no stranger to success. Teams Pride and Inspire both earned a spot in last year’s national recreational cheerleading competition, the Quest Recreational Cheer Championship in Florida.
But the program is hardly just about success on the mat. Both Burton and Desrosiers said their most memorable moments often do not come from competition, but during quality time spent with teammates, like at team dinners.
“In Florida we went to the Rainforest Cafe and we had one big dinner with the team where we dressed up in certain colors and matched,” Desrosiers said.
Burton added these moments have also helped them perform better.
“After day one at quest we needed to reset our whole aura and we ‘blessed’ everyone by flicking water at them and we just bonded and went out and hit a beautiful routine on day two,” she said.
Now that the new season has started, continuing to find success and make memories are two goals for Burton and Desrosiers but helping the next generation of tigers cheerleaders is a big focus of the new season too.
Both girls help coach team Empower and are looking to make a positive impact on the younger kids by inspiring them to be confident.
“We’re always screaming for each other,” Desrosiers said. “If we didn’t have the same group of people that are on each team we would react and perform way differently.”
Tigers cheer has their first showcase this November and their first competition in December.
