High School dual enrollment students to begin classes

Sep 1, 2015

The nine Wareham High School Dual Enrollment Program students will start their college experience next week at Bridgewater State University.

On Thursday, Aug. 27th, the students were taken to the main campus in Bridgewater for their orientation, where they had a tour of the school to learn about the campus layout and services that are available to them as dual enrollment students. The students also met with BSU’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator and Admissions Counselor, Sharon Peterson, as well as with Mary Delgado, Office of the President.

The students also met the BSU staff that will be transporting them to BSU daily, free of charge, through the A.D. Makepeace Foundation’s $9,600 Neighborhood Grant. The grant will also offer some scholarship money to participating students to help them with the cost of tuition or textbooks.

This partnership with BSU began at the start of the 2014-15 school year, thanks to the initial and ongoing support of retired BSU President, Dana Mohler-Faria, the new President, Frederick W. Clark Jr, Esq, and Mary Delgado, Executive Secretary to President Clark. This program, Wareham High’s Fast Track to College, has allowed students to attend Bridgewater State University each morning during the BSU school year to take two classes a semester at a reduced rate. The credits earned at BSU also are credited to their high school transcript as part of the students’ WHS graduation requirements.

The students in this year’s dual enrollment program are as follows: Elise Abbott, Adrianna Adams, Miguel Acosta, Ryan Bonfiglio, Julia Fleugel, Tyler Gentry, Alyssa LaCava, Dana Maniglia, and Sara Tyma.
