High School students to hold outdoor fundraiser, fashion show

May 11, 2021

Wareham High’s DECA club has planned its upcoming events with covid-19 safety in mind. Wareham’s DECA club aims to educate students who will become leaders or entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management by applying skills learned in the classroom to real-world business scenarios.

DECA will host an outdoor fashion show on Thursday, May 13 and a tailgate dinner and auction fundraiser on May 23.

Fashion show

The fashion show — DECA’s second annual — will be held in front of Wareham High School at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The annual fashion show is a collaboration between DECA club, the high school’s project management business class and the fashion marketing business class. The project management class focuses on event planning for the fashion show, while the fashion marketing class focuses on fashion design and marketing.

Tailgate dinner and auction fundraiser

DECA club will host its annual auction — this year as a “Tailgate Dinner & Auction” — on Sunday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m., outdoors at Wareham High School.

Funds raised at the auction will go directly to students to reduce the costs of competitive events and conferences. In 2020, the club’s annual auction fundraiser was canceled due to the pandemic, but students worked to bring back the tradition this year. The fundraiser will also help the club recoup funds lost because of the pandemic.

The auction will be held “drive-in/tailgate” style, according to a press release. Attendees will be able to remain in their cars to enjoy the festivities or able to distance themselves in outdoor seating. All town, state, and federal covid-19 guidelines will be followed to ensure the safety of everyone at the event. The festivities will include a silent auction, a live auction, a rollies auction and a boxed barbeque-style lunch. Attendees will be invited to bid on a variety of items that were donated by local businesses as well as local community members.

Admission to the event will cost $5, and that price includes a meal. To purchase tickets, go to www.warehamdeca.com. For updates on the auction, visit Wareham DECA on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
