Hong Kong Island may have closed for good

Mar 2, 2017

Hong Kong Island Restaurant appears to have closed its doors.

The restaurant, located at 3035 Cranberry Highway, has not opened in almost a week and its business phone number is no longer in service. Currently, there is no record of a sale at Wareham Town Hall or the Plymouth County Registry of Deeds.

State records say that Hong Kong Island, LLC was organized in 1972. Its registered agent is listed as Susan Ying Lau and the business president is Justin Lau. Attempts to contact the Laus were unsuccessful.

In response to rumors posted on Facebook related to the closing, longtime employee Benjamin Rosen said the owners sold the business due to an illness in the family.

Rosen, who said he’s worked at Hong Kong Island since 2001, noted closing was difficult for the staff and owners.

“The crew we had for the last year especially was outstanding and it’s a sad time for us,” said Rosen. “The cook and I and everyone were like a family. We worked together this whole time and to know now I may never see any of them again is heartbreaking.”
