Hot dogs for Main Street
Get ready. Frankenstein is bringing hot dogs to Main Street.
Don't worry. Halloween didn't come early this year. Frankenstein's Hotdogs & More, featuring hot dogs with toppings from bacon to pulled pork, will open up its doors at 208 Rear Main Street next week.
"We really just wanted to do something fun and quick and easy for the town and for the kids," said Frankenstein's co-owner Christina Crocker. Crocker, along with her husband Brian and friend Tracey Dunnington, is opening up the joint. The three also own Parrot Bar & Grille in Cataumet.
In addition to the 13 types of hot-dogs-and-fixins on the menu, Frankenstein's has fried goodies like chicken tenders, fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. The menu also features chowder from the Parrot, and the Wareham Fire Department will be providing its award-winning chili. (Brian is a Wareham firefighter, so Frankenstein's has the hook-up!)
The idea is to provide a quick, tasty meal for folks on-the-go, Christina said.
Wondering about the name? Their customers at the Parrot came up with it, Christina said. "And we just ran with it." (Though their menu hints that lack of sleep may have also had something to do with it...)
Frankenstein's will also be helping out local students during Weiner Wednesdays. Ten cents from every hot dog sold on Wednesdays will be donated to the Wareham High School class of 2012, of which Christina's son is a member. (This will be changed periodically to help out other classes as well, she said.)
And how about the prices? They're very low. Grab a hot dog for as little as $1.50. A Frankenstein's lunch special will get you two plain dogs, chips, and a soda for $4.25. Upgrade to fries and pay $5.25.
"You can't open a place like this and charge $10 for a hot dog," Christina said. "We don't want to get rich doing this. We just want to have fun."
