Howard Sample, 88
Howard Sample, 88, passed away Oct 21, 2014 at the Atria in Fairhaven, surrounded by his friends and family.
He was born May 8, 1926 in Anderson, Indiana, grew up in Colorado and lived in Dedham and Wareham. He was married to his loving wife, Alice (Girard) Sample, who preceded him in death in 2003.
Howard served in the US Navy in World War II on the USS Seid and the USS Palau and was very proud of his military service.
He owned and operated Freeman-Carder Corp, a highly respected architectural millwork firm in West Newton, known for its fine woodworking craftsmanship in many of Boston’s well known offices and institutions. His other talents and interests were buying and selling antiques, auctioneering, flea markets, assisting his friends with building repairs and projects, all with great generosity, a huge heart and sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Sample and husband, Steve Konow of CT and Wareham; Sue Caci and her husband, Frank of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his son, Bob Sample and his wife, Karol-Ann, who recently relocated to California; a brother, Willis Sample of Colorado and a sister, Lorraine of Washington state.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son, John Sample; and his brothers, David, Norman, Clifford, Glenn, and a sister Mary. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who were fortunate to spend time with him this past summer.
Many thanks to all of his resident friends and the staff at Atria, who were so supportive and loving.
