Info session will inform seniors about openings for new Littleton Drive apartments

Aug 6, 2024

A housing project on Littleton Drive has its sights set on an October date for move-ins, and there will be an info session in the next week informing seniors about the process of applying for an apartment.

The developers, Pennrose, will host an informational session at the Multi-Service Center, 48 Marion Road, in Room 520 on the fifth floor. It will take place on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Wareham Council on Aging Director Sharon Rice said the Council is “actively supporting” the info session, “because there is such a tremendous need for senior housing in Wareham, and we want to be sure our seniors are aware of the opportunity,” she said. She added the session is also open to families, as there will be family housing available at the housing project.

The project, officially named Swifts Landing, will have 93 units of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. A little under half of the apartments — 44 out of 93 — will be restricted to applicants who are 62 or older; these will all be one-bedroom apartments.

Preference for the apartments will be given to applicants who “live, work or have children that go to school in Wareham,” according to the company’s materials.

Pennrose marketing manager Katie Rudan said that the preference will apply to “up to 70% of the units” as the apartments are first getting leased out. Those who qualify for the preference (i.e., those who live, work or have their children educated in Wareham) will have a higher ranking in the selection lotteries than those who do not.

Apartments will be income restricted, with one-bedroom apartments going for a monthly rent of $853 or $1,771, depending on the income of applicants. Two-bedroom apartments will range from $1,019 to $2,600 and three-bedroom apartments will range from $1,172 to $2,445, again depending on the income of applicants. These income restrictions are effective as of July, and are subject to change.

Rudan said the apartments are currently under construction, and that the company expects the townhome-style buildings to be ready in October and the senior buildings to be ready in November.

There will be two housing lotteries conducted on Friday, Oct. 4 over Facebook live, one for family apartments and one for 62+ apartments. A household where all the members are over the age of 62 may choose to enter both lotteries.

Pre-applications must be mailed to Swifts Landing, PO Box 56033, Philadelphia, PA, 19130, and postmarked by Tuesday, Sept. 24 for applicants to be considered.
