Irene M. Franklin passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022 in Wareham at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy M. Franklin in September 2018 after 70 years of marriage.

Irene was born in Nashua, NH to parents Laura A. (Tellier) King and Peter D. King on March 1, 1925 and raised in Brockton graduating with the Class of 1943. Irene and Roy were married in May 1948 and their three children soon followed.

Irene volunteered her time at Tobey Hospital and was an active and devoted communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham her entire life and awarded the Marian Medal for her service to the church.

Irene and Roy enjoyed annual vacations to Bermuda as well as bus trips to Foxwoods and day trips to Point Judith, RI which was a childhood summer destination for Irene. Some of these trips were shared with her long-time best friend, Fran. Other travel highlights included a journey through Ireland and visiting the Vatican in Rome.

Irene continued living at the family home after Roy’s passing for as long as she was able before moving to All American Assisted Living the final 6 months of her life where she made several new friends and was well taken care of.

Irene was predeceased by her two sisters, Pauline Dufresne (Louis) and Ruth Connolly (William) and is survived by her loving children, Susan White (Barry), David Franklin (Marianne) and Lori Denson (Bruce) and her beloved grandsons, Geoffrey White (Melisa), Nicholas Denson (Katie) and Jared Franklin (Lindsay) as well as her great-granddaughter Josie who was born in the past year. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews who she loved and cared for very much.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
