James W. Harris, 82

James W. Harris, 82, of Wareham, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Golden Living – Oak Hill Nursing Center. James was the husband of the late Priscilla (Sequeira) Harris.

James was born in Greenfield, Mass. in 1931 the son of the late Calvin and Myrtle ( Hall) Harris. He attended and graduated from Greenfield Public Schools. James was a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in basketball and football. A descendant of John Putnam (a well-known musician and helper of the Underground Railroad in Greenfield, Mass.) James would attend Fiddlers day with his family, held in Greenfield yearly to honor John Putnam. A U.S. Air Force veteran James served during the Korean War. He also enjoyed to travel and retired from Commonwealth Electric as an Engineer.

James is survived by his stepchildren; Cheryl Chester and Joseph Alves III both of Wareham. He is the brother of Charles Harris of Brockton and Juanita Latham of Ga. He is the grandfather of Noah Bell, Angel Johnson, Albert J. Mason Jr., Joseph Alves IV, Tanika Alves and Ashley Alves. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Lovell Johnson, Deon Bell & Chozen-Son Bell and many loving nieces’ nephews’ relatives and friends. James is the brother of the late Leonard, Johnny, Walter, Kitty, Tootsie, Hubert, Pidgie and Jenney.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery Tihonet Road Wareham. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
