JBA Summer Basketball League round-up

The competition is heating up in the Wareham's Jason J. Andrade Memorial Summer Basketball League (JBA). Here is a recap of the action on the court!

Division 1 Girls

On Monday, June 27, the Division 1 Girls teams faced offed. Nana's Ice Cream Parlor Liberty crushed the BBL Builders Lynx 29 to 7.

Brianna Williams scored 12 points to lead the Liberty to their third straight win. Brianna Tavares added 9 points and Shaelyn Andrews chipped in with 4 points. Tiara Duarte and Jillian Mello each hit for 2 points. Bailey Colon scored 6 points and Julia Michaels added a foul shot for the Lynx.

On Tuesday, June 28 Carolee's Comedy Corner Storm  trumped the Bladez Hair Salon Sparks 39 to 7.


Michaela McDuffy's 12 points powered the Storm to the big win. Sierra Roberge and Laurina Luppino each scored 6 points while Erica Trask added 5 points. Kali Fernandes and Blossom Roberge chipped in with 4 points apiece. Isabella Roberge hit for 2 points.


Gabrielle Lefrancois scored 5 points to lead the Sparks and Jamie McCormack added 2 points.

Division 1 Boys

Also on Monday, the Cotter Machine Company Lakers took on Marc Anthony's Hornets in the Division 1 Boys League. The Lakers won 66 to 45.

The Lakers got 22 points from Mark Pierrot and 13 points from Darrion Santos to lead the rout of the Hornets. Jack Zine scored 9 points and Jacob Freeman added 7 points. Curtis Merritt and Koby Andrade each added 6 points. Naquan Young finished with 4 points.


Xavier Foggie's 21 points led the Hornets. Michael McAllister scored 11 points and Derek Guerrier finished with 10 points. Michael Gill and Mason Roy chipped in 2 points each.

On Tuesday, June 28 the Onujiogu Grizzlies beat the J&M Realty Thunder 47 to 37 in the Division 1 Boys League.


Mathieu Griggs (14 points) and Durell Barros (13 points) combined to help the Grizzlies remain undefeated. Alex Spinner scored 8 points and Josh Onujiogu had 6 points. Alberto Sanchez finished with 4 points and Isiah Gomes chipped in with 2 points.


The Thunder got 16 points from Michael Labonte and 8 points from Paris Pires. Jamahl Silva added 7 points and Ashantay Tavares had 4 points. Robert Garrity hit for 2 points.


Division 2 Boys

The Narrows Crossing Restaurant Huskies defeated the Andrade Construction Wildcats 32 to 10 in the Division 2 Boys League.

Tanner Carlson and Joshua DeBarros scored 8 points apiece to power the Huskies to victory. Kevin Williams added 7 points and Dominic Mello had 3 points. Daniel Minkle Jr., Brice Fernandes and Justin Davis each had 2 points.


Joshua Nawoichik's 4 points led the Wildcats with both Jonah Depina and Tyler Santos adding 3 points.

Also in the Division 2 Boys League Monday the CDD Construction Friars beat Salerno's Function Hall Eagles 42 to 31.


Damien Perry Jr (18 points) and Jamual Sims (16 points) kept the Friars undefeated in the showdown with the Eagles. David Doucette and Gaige Madera each scored 5 points and Kyran Pina finished the scoring for the team with 2 points.


Sonny Fernandes scored 17 points for the Eagles and Justin Lopes added 6 points. Seth Andrade added 4 points. Desmond Nascimento scored 2 points and Elijah McAllister added a foul shot.
