John Battaglia, 82

John Battaglia, 82 of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 at Marlboro Hills Rehabilitation Center due to complications of COVID-19.

John was born on Jan. 28, 1938 in Carnegie, PA to Joseph and Angelina (Busa) Battaglia. He spent his youth in Lawrence, attending Lawrence High School where he excelled in basketball and boxing.

John served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard from 1955 to 1963.

He moved to New Hampshire and lived in Hudson and Nashua. He retired from the Rockingham Racetrack where he worked in the maintenance department. He relocated to Massachusetts in 2016 to be closer to his family. He attended the Gateway Adult Center in Wareham. He was kind and caring and made friends with ease.

John enjoyed all sports especially the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. He was well versed in all the scores and statistics and enjoyed talking about them. Always willing to help, John was a loyal volunteer at Good Shepherd’s Table in Wareham for several years.

He is survived by his cousins, Rita Fragala and her husband John of North Andover, Millie Funnell and her husband George of Wareham and Marguerite Dube and her husband Al of Lakeland, FL; a step-daughter, Carol Cordiero and a good friend, Elaine
Davis both of Nashua, NH.

His family wishes to thank the staff of Gabriel House in Fall River and the staff of Gateway Adult Center, especially Alison Savory and Jeane Mitchell.
