John A. Brightman, 97, of Wareham, died April 19, 2021 in the Tremont Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Vieira) Brightman and the son of the late Emerson and Mary (Welch) Brightman. 

He was born in New Bedford on June 23, 1923. He attended New Bedford Schools.

Mr. Brightman served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was shot, and was a Disabled Veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Wheeler and wife Kay of GA; a son, Arthur J. Brightman and wife Kathleen of Wareham; daughter-in-law, Deirdre Brightman of GA; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

Visiting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rte.28), Wareham. Appropriate COVID-19 protocol will be observed including the use of face masks, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity.

His graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
