John C. Hammond, 67

John C. Hammond, 67, of E. Wareham died Wednesday, Oct. 26, unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of the late Judith Anne Lanciano-Hammond.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Earl C. “Leftie” Hammond and Irma (Leonard) Dexter and attended Wareham High School. Mr. Hammond was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. For over 30 years, he worked as a millwright for the Raytheon Corporation. He retired in 2011.

He enjoyed league bowling with his co-workers at Raytheon and in Mattapoisett.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Amanda Anne Penuel Conti and Sarah Marie Penuel both of Wareham; his sister, Jolane E. Doyle of Bradford and his step-grandson, Jason Conti of Wareham. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Jeffrey Hammond.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
