John Emile Theriault,71

May 18, 1953- November 9, 2024 

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Theriault. A devoted husband, father, "Pop,” brother and friend. He left us peacefully at home surrounded by love. John's presence touched the lives of all who were lucky enough to have known him. 

Born in Attleboro on May 18, 1953, to the late Lionel and Rose Theriault. John dedicated over 45 years to the environmental and wastewater industry, where he was a recognized expert and leader. He held a Grade 7c wastewater license and served as Chief Operator in both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. John's commitment to environmental preservation led him to co-found Newstream LLC, where he served as Vice President, contributing his extensive expertise to develop high-capacity industrial water and wastewater treatment and recycling solutions.

An avid boater, John held a U.S. Coast Guard captains license and was happiest when being out on the water with his family. John was also an expert handyman who found joy in tackling projects, whether for himself or friends and family. Always generous with his time and skills, he was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand or advice on a project. The word "No" was truly not in his vocabulary, if you needed him, he was always there no matter what. Above all John was known for his goofy sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to make just about anyone laugh (even if they didn't want to). This was a trait that brought light and joy to all who were honored enough to know him.  

John is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Theriault of Wareham; his son Scott Theriault and his partner, Katie Noonan of Cape Coral, FL, his daughter Rachael Whalen, and her husband Bryan Whalen of Plymouth, MA and his cherished grandchildren Ava and Lea Whalen and Cole Theriault. He also leaves behind his treasured sisters, Nanci Bussaglia and her husband Ernie of Naples, FL, Sheila Springer and her husband Alan of West Greenwich, RI, as well as many friends and colleagues who admired him for his commitment to family, kindness, and sense of humor.
