WAREHAM – John H. Gavaza, Jr., 78, of Wareham, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was the husband of Judith (Volpe) Hall-Gavaza.

Born in Brockton, Mr. Gavaza was raised in Whitman and graduated from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, Class of 1964. He moved to Wareham and was the sole proprietor of Wareham Floor Covering for 50 years, retiring in 2022. He was also a U.S. Army Reservist serving from 1967 to 1972.

Mr. Gavaza enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the Boston Red Sox. His family will remember him fondly as devoted and hardworking Husband and Father.

Survivors include his wife Judith of Wareham; his children, John H. Gavaza, III of Onset, Matthew Gavaza of Rehoboth, Bryan Gavaza of Halifax, Laura LaCava and her husband David of Wareham, and Andrea Thompson and her husband Eric of Stoneham; his siblings, Jamie Gavaza, Jerry Gavaza, Joanne Lighthizer, Michelle Gigante and Judy Lake. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wed., Feb. 12, 2025 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 10 AM to 12 Noon. A graveside service will follow at Center Cemetery, Tihonet Rd., Wareham at 12:30 PM.
