Kenneth Bastien, 88, of West Wareham, formerly New Bedford, died at home, Oct. 29. He was the husband of Geraldine (Guertler) Bastien and the son of the late Anthony and Emily (Holden) Bastien. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elsie (Catlow) Bastien.

Lifelong resident of New Bedford and 1945 graduate of New Bedford High School, Ken served four years in the maritime service, merchant marine before working as a customer service representative in the office machine industry for decades. Vocalist and lifelong member of the Harpoon Harmonizers, local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, he sang with several award-winning quartets and twice with New England Champions, and qualified as international judge. He served numerous years as a certified judge in the U.S. and Canada and arranging barbershop music. He also volunteered 20 years as a docent with the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Geraldine M. (Guertler) Bastien; a son, Stephen Bastien of Marysville, Washington; a sister-in-law, Glenda Bastien, of Asheville, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Cassidy Bastien, of Everett, Washington; a grandson, Anthony Bastien, of Marysville, Washington. He was the father of the late Linda, Nancy and David Bastien, all of New Bedford, and the brother of the late Robert Bastien. He is also survived by his very good friends, Bonnie and Kevin Lally, of West Wareham, Bernie and Tom Sacchetti, of West Wareham, and Jerry Durant, of New Bedford, and his beloved dog Charlie, who brought him great affection and comfort.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.

Visiting hours are from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
