Land Trust is seeking a new property

Jun 28, 2023

The Select Board unanimously voted for the town to be the conservation restriction holder for the Wareham Land Trust’s potential property at 120 Cromesett Road, pending fall Town Meeting approval.

Elise Leduc-Fleming, the executive director of the Wareham Land Trust, said the organization has the opportunity to purchase a 3.5 acre piece of land at 120 Cromesett Road.

This property is located on Marks Cove Conservation Area and abuts a property the town already owns.

“It's a beautiful little piece of property that would give the public the opportunity of a great vista viewing area [and] a short trail that we're hoping to make as accessible as possible—wide and flat,” Leduc-Fleming said.

She said members of the Land Trust are working to obtain a Conservation Partnership Grant to fund a majority of the purchase. The Land Trust has until March 2024 to fundraise.

The Conservation Commission held a vote and agreed to be the conservation restriction holder, which the Select Board also voted to approve.

In addition, the Land Trust requests the Select Board to provide a letter of commitment for the grant.
