Lawrence Gay, 73, Deputy Chief of Onset Fire Department

Lawrence Gay, 73, of Onset, died April 13, 2010 in Tobey Hospital with his family at his side. He was the husband of Jean (Tassinari) Gay. They were married for 49 years. He was the son of the late William F. and Eleanor (Washburn) Gay.

He was born in New Bedford and lived all of his life in Onset.

Mr. Gay joined the Onset Fire Department at the age of 15 as a junior firefighter and rose through the ranks to First Assistant Engineer in 1980. He retired in 1992, after 40 years with the fire department. He served on the Onset Fire District Prudential Committee from 1964 to 1980. His favorite moments were times spent with his family, camping in his motor home with family and friends, and hanging around with the boys at the fire station.  A special thank you to the doctors and staff at Tobey Hospital.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Laurie Parker and her husband James, of West Wareham, and Lisa Gay, of Sandwich; a son, John Gay, of Onset; a brother, Linwood Gay of Onset; a sister, Carol Roberts, of Swansea; a grandson, James Parker, IV, of West Wareham; several nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late William F. Gay, II, Eleanor Demoranville and Elizabeth Brookhart.

His funeral was Saturday, April 17, 2010 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home.
