Learn about sea turtles with the "Turtle Guy"
Using "the magic of digital media", Don Lewis (also known as the "Turtle Guy"), and Sue Wieber Nourse will make the First Congregational Church at 11 Gibbs Avenue into the stormy Atlantic ocean coastline Saturday, May 11.
Anyone who attends will have a chance to rescue a female leatherback whale entangled in Cape Cod Bay, and patrol beaches looking for tropical and semi-tropical seas turtles in need of rescue.
Cape Cod's geographical shape, specifically the way it hooks around, has become a death-trap for some ocean animals. Young sea turtles know they're supposed to travel to warmer waters, but become trapped in the bay. This results in hypothermia for the turtles and the yearly sea turtle stranding in November.
In addition to taking attendees on ocean adventures (in the confines of the church of course), Lewis and other members of the Turtle Journal team will share their experiences rescuing sea turtles. For more information call 508-295-0211, or visit www.turtlejournal.com.
