Sheryl White of Baby Kneads, in cooperation with the Wareham Free Library, will be offering a four-week virtual workshop series for parents and caregivers to learn the fundamentals of baby sign language.
The virtual classes will be held via Zoom on Tuesdays in August at 10:30 a.m. Each program will be 45 minutes long. The series “will give caregivers an opportunity to learn how to reduce frustration and give their babies the ability to communicate before he/she can speak,” according to a press release from the library.
After going over research and benefits of baby sign language, White will teach several signs and give participants a chance to practice what they’ve learned. The classes are appropriate for parents, caregivers and pre-verbal children ages four months and up.
The dates and subjects of the classes are as follows:
- August 10: beginning signs and mealtime symbols
- August 17: bathtime and diaper signs
- August 24: clothing, dressing and bedtime signs
- August 31: animals and family signs
Registration is required for this event, and spaces are limited. Families are encouraged to attend this program with their children. To register please contact Reference/Outreach Librarian Steven Miller at (508) 295-2343 x1012 or at smiller@sailsinc.org.
