Leonora P. (Canute) Fernandes, 87, of West Wareham, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at her home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Antone L. Fernandes, Jr.

Born in Falmouth, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Monteiro) Canute.

She grew up in East Providence, Rhode Island before moving to Wareham. Mrs. Fernandes was a homemaker for many years before working as a clerk in the assessor’s office for the Town of Wareham for 20 years. She was also a poll worker for many years. Mrs. Fernandes was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting and crochet.

She is survived by her daughter, Tana Quintal of Falmouth; her sons, Antone L. Fernandes, III of Wareham, Gary Fernandes of West Wareham and Steven Fernandes of Northport, Florida; her sisters, Vivian Roberts of Brewster, Beverly Phillips of East Providence, Rhode Island and Muriel Arnold of North Carolina; her brothers, Manuel Monteiro of East Providence, Rhode Island, and Reginald Monteiro of North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Wed., April 29 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church on Onset Avenue at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
