Lindsey's and Gatemen team up
Last Monday's unpredictable weather did not stop Lindsey's Restaurant's night at the Wareham Gatemen. As a corporate sponsor, Lindsey's is given a special night each year and the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
This year, Lindsey's General Manager Mary Labonte chose ten-year-old Zachary Kelley, the son of a longtime Lindsey's employee and Labonte's Godson, to do the honors. Zach is heading into the 5th grade at Sippican Elementary in Marion and recently played on the Marion Minor League team, the Orioles. He is a big fan of the Gateman, having participated in the Gatemen summer baseball clinics for the past two years.
After Zach's pitch thwacked into Gatemen Nico Rosthenhausler's glove, Debi Lindsey started off the game by saying those famous words, "Play ball!"
After the game, Lindsey's hosted the entire Gatemen team and staff as well as their opponents, the Falmouth Commodores, to a buffet dinner at the restaurant.
The Cape Cod Baseball League hosts hundreds of college students from all over the country every summer. Feeding these players isn't easy, and the cost of doing so can be prohibitive, so after each game, a different organization or business sponsors a meal for the players. Restaurant owner Cheri Lindsey knows how important home cooking can be for the morale and success of the team so she donates this dinner annually.
Gatemen Manager and self-proclaimed Lindsey's fan, Cooper Farris said, "it was good to have homemade food since many of the players are far from home."
