A little more about Wareham VillageSoup
Feb 9, 2010
This is the first of what I hope to make a frequent column -- and blog online -- about what we're doing at Wareham Week and WarehamVillageSoup.com.
WarehamVillageSoup.com is -- and isn't -- "Wareham Week online."
Those who have been to the site (www.WarehamVillageSoup.com, which can also be reached by typing in www.WarehamWeek.com) already know that it contains most of the material that's in the paper.
But, and this is a big "but:"
- You frequently see the news online first. "Weekly in print, daily online" is more than a slogan for us.
- There is likely to be a longer version of a story with more photographs - or video -- online. Check out the gallery of photos shot when Jordan Rezendes scored his 1,000th point or the video clip of the Saint Bernards (featured in our first issue) making snow angels!
- There is, and will increasingly be, interesting online content that never makes it into print. Today's business page features a snippet of the Mill Pond Diner's "Today in Food History." There's more online, where you'll also find forum discussions prompted by questions about "What happened to Cup of the Bay?" and "What's with all the digging?" All came from Wareham VillageSoup members (business, organization, and individual), whose ability to post 24/7 is already helping keep the site lively 24/7.
As we enter just Week 4 of our existence, it's fair to say that neither Wareham Week nor WarehamVillageSoup.com is yet what we aspire for either to be. But if you take a few minutes to go online, I think you'll see that WarehamVillageSoup.com is already a community website, not just "the newspaper online."
