Local businesses, artists team up for multi-site gala

Local businesses, restaurants, and artists are teaming up to bring community members a night out on the town in Wareham.

On Friday, September 23, Wareham Community Television (WCTV), Eastern Bank, Gallery Consignment, and Buzzards Play Productions will be displaying the artwork of local artists for the Progressive Arts in Wareham Show, or PAWS, event.

The multi-site gala is the first of its kind in Wareham. Event-goers will drive to each of the four locations to check out the artwork and the town. The evening will conclude at one of four participating local restaurants. All will offer a dinner discount of 20% for attendees.

Wareham Community Television’s Sally Morrison and Eastern Bank branch manager Rose Berry spearheaded the event. Planning began in mid-July and quickly drew the interest of local artists eager to showcase their work and local businesses eager to showcase Wareham.

“We wanted to make it a real night out on the town,” said Wareham Community Television director Jay Heard. “It’s something different for Wareham. We’re trying to look at things more positively in the town and open it up to people.”

Artists will display a diverse collection of their work, highlighting some of their favorite pieces. The art will hang at the four locations for up to a month.

“It is a win-win,” said Berry. “I get to have the artwork for my branch and local artists can showcase their work.”

The seven area artists include Bruce Gannon, Denn Santoro, Steven Becker, Charles Wood, Pam Rainey, Susan Gilmore, and Eileen Grady.

“I think there’s a lot of people interested in art in Wareham. If people come to this event it could inspire them to be their own artist,” Pam Rainey said.

The free event runs from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants can chose their own path to each of the four locations.

A discount on dinner can be redeemed at Charlie’s Pizza, the Narrows Restaurant, Ella’s Wood Burning Oven Restaurant, or Piper Beau's after visiting each of the galleries. The discount will only be honored on the night of the event.
