Local record label to hold library benefit concert

Dec 7, 2015

Who knew reading books could be so metal?

Supermoon Records, a local record label, will hold a benefit concert for the Wareham Free Library Dec. 11 at the First Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall. Supermoon Records co-founder and Wareham resident Tom Cifello, 20, said he had the idea, after seeing how much money the shows the label had organized raked in.

“I noticed people doing benefit shows and fundraisers,” Cifello said. “I figured the library would be the best [recipient].”

Though Cifello hasn’t attended public meetings about the state of the library, he knows it’s stretched to the limit, budget-wise, and finds it “weird that a place that was open every day when I needed it is not open every day anymore.”

“When I was a kid, a bunch of kids I knew would hang out there,” Cifello said. “It was open all the time, and I would go there and study.”

Cifello said he hopes the event will raise at least $500 for the library. He said he expects several high schoolers to attend, but, given the type of music, is interested to see if older folks make an appearance, too.

“The kind of music we play is genuine hardcore, and it’s not accepted that well,” Cifello said. “It’s nice to show we aren’t here to cause trouble.”

Cifello said the label plans to hold another show in the coming year to raise money for the high school’s marching band.

“We plan on doing this a lot more,” Cifello said.

Doors will be at 5 p.m., and the concert will start at 5:30 p.m. The show lineup is as follows:

  • When All We Love is Lost (Indie)
  • From The Makers Of (Prog hardcore)
  • Arrowhead (Emotional rock)
  • Bottomfed (Experimental hardcore)
  • Aviator (Acoustic and post hardcore)
  • Running Laps (Indie hip hop)
  • Yurei (Instrumental and hip hop)

There will also be a bake sale and raffle for additional fundraising. All proceeds will benefit the Wareham Free Library.
