Lucky Goat to close Main Street taproom by end of year
After four years of pouring, brewing and bringing the community together, Lucky Goat will be closing its Main Street taproom Dec. 31, 2025.
The decision comes after owner and lifelong Wareham resident, Kendall Peabody, looks to focus on other ventures. The business focused on local craft beers, live music and fundraising events.
With a two-year-old son and a need for a better work-life balance, there was no "tipping point," in his decision. He said that the taproom has caused him to be away from home for late hours, and although he has enjoyed his time meeting new people behind the bar, he could feel himself burning out.
"Its not one thing," he said. "If you were to take away even just a few things I would still probably make this decision."
While the taproom is closing, Peabody said he is going to continue brewing and may look into opening another taproom in the future.
"I'm going to keep brewing right now," he said. "It's kind of like trying to fix a plane when you're flying it, sometimes its better to stop and land."
One of the many things Peabody looks to focus on as the taproom closes is the Wareham Business Association. The association is a non-profit comprised of owners and employees of small businesses in town with the main goal of supporting business owner and their customers.
As president and one of the founding members, Peabody said the association has been taking the slower business months to take a break from activities. With the new year rolling in there are plans in motion to pick back up again.
"I've been doing a lot of a small projects and it's one thing where I feel like I've been stretched pretty thin in. I want to give that the time it deserves," he said.
For now, Peabody will be focusing on events to close out the year and shutting down operations within the taproom.
"I could have kept going for another year or two, but I didn't want to just burn out," he said. "I wanted to go out with a bang. We have a lot planned."
