A Sandwich man with two active warrants was arrested and charged with 10 counts including assault and battery on a police officer after allegedly driving his SUV 30 feet with a police officer in tow on Friday, June 28. 

According to a police report, officers asked Sandwich resident Kyle Cochran to stop his Toyota RAV4 at the scene of a crash on Marion Road outside Shaw’s after he tried to go around a police cruiser that was blocking a lane.

According to Police Officer Calib LaRue, police on the scene of the initial crash were notified Cochran had two active arrest warrants and a suspended driver’s license. 

Police asked Cochran to leave his vehicle and placed him under arrest, according to the report. Police officer Aaron Pacheco wrote in the report that as officers attempted to put Cochran in handcuffs, he “continuously flailed his arms” and struck Pacheco and LaRue.

Police officers pepper sprayed and tased Cochran after he ran back to his car and started to accelerate.

According to the police report, LaRue jumped inside the car “to avoid being dragged under the left rear wheel.” LaRue wrote that his right shin was being slammed against the vehicle’s door. 

“All passengers were screaming at Mr. Cochran to stop his vehicle,” LaRue wrote.

LaRue was brought to Tobey Hospital via ambulance and was treated and released for a minor injury to his right leg.

Cochran was arraigned in Wareham District Court on Monday, July 1 and was charged with assault and battery, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

This is not Cochran’s first time facing charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He was charged in Barnstable and Falmouth with negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Both cases resulted in arrest warrants after Cochran allegedly violated his terms of probation.
