Man arrested in connection with home invasion with a sawed-off shotgun at Brandy Hill apartments
A 26-year old man was arrested Friday night in connection with an armed home invasion, according to the Wareham Police Department.
John Peckham, resident of East Wareham, formerly of Rhode Island, allegedly broke into a Brandy Hill apartment unit holding a sawed-off shotgun, demanding money and other items. Three men inside the unit wrestled the shotgun away from the suspect who then fled without money nor items in hand, police said.
Police said officers who reported to the call were told by the three men that they only knew the suspect by his first name. Officers later determined that the shotgun confiscated from the unit was not loaded. Following a two hour search, police said they found Peckman at his home at 9 Tyler Ave.
The suspect was brought to the police department and booked on charges of armed home invasion, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant issued by Fall River District Court for an unrelated prior offense.
Peckham was arraigned Monday, September 28 at Wareham District Court. An October 23 pretrial date was arranged, and bail was set for $50,000.
