Man arrested for shoplifting hours after alleged OUI
Wareham Police arrested Michael Pina, 34, of no certain address, for shoplifting at Walmart on Tuesday, Feb. 18, less than 24 hours after he was found intoxicated in a motor vehicle, and transported to Tobey Hospital.
According to the Wareham Police Department, Officer Eric Machado found Pina sitting in a running vehicle at the parking lot of C.W. Bishop Avenue at 12:50 a.m.
Upon further investigation, it appeared that Pina was under the influence of alcohol, and an ambulance was requested to the scene. Pina was transported to Tobey Hospital and is being summoned to court for operating under the influence (third offense) operating with a revoked license, and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Later, at 2:30 p.m., officers responded to Walmart for a report of a suspicious male. Officer Calib Larue saw Pina eating a sandwich that he had not paid for. Larue placed Pina in custody for shoplifting, and was aware that two warrants had been issued for his arrest. Pina was held pending an appearance at Wareham District Court on Wednesday morning.
