Man charged with attempted murder after late night stabbing in Onset

A man was charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Onset Friday night.

Police said Michael Ainsley, 48, of Randolph was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder, after being identified as the person who stabbed a 29-year-old Wareham woman.

Wareham Police officers responded to Onset Avenue in Onset Center regarding a reported stabbing incident at 9:20 p.m.

Police said upon arrival, officers noticed a woman standing in the street suffering from an apparent stab wound to her upper stomach area. The woman, who was speaking with officers, Onset Fire Department personnel, and Wareham EMS personnel, stated she was assaulted by a man, according to police.

The woman, who has not been identified, was transported to Tobey Hospital where the wound was determined to be non-life-threatening. Ainsley was also transported by EMS to Tobey Hospital regarding a non-life-threatening head wound possibly sustained due to a fall during the incident, police said.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Wareham Police Department Detective Division.
