Man sentenced in 2011 Onset shooting
Dominic Rezendes, 23, has been sentenced to 15 to 16 years in state prison following his conviction on charges related to a 2011 shooting in Onset.
Rezendes was convicted of two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm as a career criminal, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a weapon with 500 feet of a dwelling, according to court clerks.
On January 21, 2011, police responded to reports of gunshots near the 56 Longwood Ave. apartments in Onset. They found two men fighting outside, one of whom had a gun.
Matthew Joy of Falmouth was shot once in the chest and once in the foot, and was airlifted to Boston to undergo surgery for his injuries.
While conducting surveillance in the area the day after the shooting, police saw Rezendes leave the apartment complex. He was found hiding in the trunk of the car by police.
