Marathon runner to raise funds for food pantry
Mattapoisett marathon runner Rob Grant is preparing for his 13th 26.2-mile run in May with a fundraiser for Damien’s Place Food Pantry.
Grant often runs for a good cause. Recently he has jogged for the Catholic Diocese of Fall River’s bereavement and depression ministry in addition to Damien’s, located in Wareham.
With two marathons a year he has plenty of opportunities to do good. Grant has run in Seattle, Montreal and Miami Beach, to name a few places. In May, he will add Providence to that list.
In anticipation of that race, Grant is holding a fundraiser in conjunction with Cosi in Wareham Crossing on Thursday, March 17. The restaurant is donating 25 percent of its sales from 5 to 9 p.m. to Damien’s. Customers simply need to pick up a coupon from Grant, who will be there to answer questions, and hand it in while ordering. He said even people who don’t want to buy a meal at Cosi can learn about volunteering at Damien's and learn what food items the local nonprofit needs.
Grant said, “I just want to make people aware of the pantry.”
